Overnight oats are one of my favorite, prep-ahead breakfasts. Yet, this always surprises me because I’ve never really been a fan of oatmeal growing up.

I’ve talked about this before, and I feel it’s worth mentioning again. When I was younger, I loved the smell of oatmeal. I even loved the looks of it, too! And I’m talking about the instant oats. You know, the kind where you just add water or milk, microwave, and boom…breakfast is served.

But whenever my parents would buy those instant oats, I would take one or two bites and be done with it. Even with the fruity flavors, oatmeal was just too plain for me. It’s one of those foods that I “thought” I liked, but just couldn’t eat when I had it in front of me. Do you have any foods like that?

Well, I’m happy to report that although I can eat those instant oats more often now, it’s still not a regular breakfast for me. Instead, I much prefer to eat my oatmeal in the form of baked banana bread, pumpkin pie, or these cherry pie overnight oats.

And that got me thinking…it’s been too long since I’ve shared an overnight oats recipe. And I’m not kidding when I say that I love overnight oats. There’s just something about the texture and ingredients that makes me devour every last bite. Especially when it comes to chocolate strawberry overnight oats.

How to Make Strawberry Nutella Overnight Oats

Like most of my recipes, these overnight oats are so easy to make! With just about five minutes of prep time and a few hours to thicken in the fridge, your breakfast or snack is just waiting to be devoured.

  1. In a small bowl, mix together oats, milk, yogurt, strawberries, and Nutella.
  2. Pour into a mason jar or airtight container with lid.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours so that the oats soften and absorb the liquid.
  4. Remove from refrigerator, stir, and top with more strawberries, if desired.

This is the perfect grab ‘n go breakfast for those busy mornings. Simply store the oats in a Mason jar or container, and you can grab this as you head out the door. Talk about convenient, right?

Can You Make Overnight Oats with Steel Cut Oats?

No, I don’t recommend doing so. Steel cut oats are much heartier than regular oats, and won’t provide the right texture.

You’ll want to use old-fashioned (rolled) oats to make the Nutella overnight oats with strawberries.

How Long Do Overnight Oats?

If stored in an airtight container in the fridge, the chocolate strawberry overnight oats will last up to five days.

Tips for Making Overnight Oats

  • Use old-fashioned oats. Instant or steel cut oats won’t deliver the same texture.
  • Use any milk you’d like. Regular or plant-based milks both work equally well. However, I recommend using an unsweetened milk since the Nutella is already quite sweet.
  • Use plant-based yogurt, if needed. If you can’t have dairy, feel free to use a vanilla plant-based yogurt instead.
