Let’s talk television today!
Tell me, what are your favorite TV shows? Are you addicted to Netflix? Watch Hulu? Or prefer On Demand?
I have to admit that while I do have Netflix, I go in spurts with it. Sad, right? Any shows that I need to be watching right now?
But, I do record shows on my DVR and watch On Demand when I need to. Every fall, I try to get into new series that are airing on TV that interest me.
I know most shows already aired their season finales, but lets talk about my favorites! My current new favorite is This is Us. Do you watch it? Soooo good! I won’t spoil it for those of you who haven’t (and please catch up this summer so you’re ready for season two!), but let’s just say that the entire cast is brilliant.
I also watch a bunch of other shows, including The Middle (I seriously love that show and will be so sad when it’s over with), American Housewife, Grey’s Anatomy (am I the only one who still watches this?), American Horror Story, and a smattering of others.
I also love the Food Network! I really only watch the actual, how-to-cook shows, not the challenges or competitions. My favorites are The Pioneer Woman, Trisha’s Southern Kitchen, and The Kitchen. On Saturday mornings, I try to enjoy my morning cup of coffee on the couch while watching these shows. It gets my weekend off to a great start!
And I’m always full of recipe ideas after watching a few episodes. In fact, I’ve shared a few of my favorites from these cooks before, and I’m sharing another one again today from Trisha Yearwood.
I’ve actually been wanting to make this Skillet Almond Shortbread for the past eight months or so, and I’m finally getting around to it! Since it turned out so good, I just had to share it with you. So, thank you, Trisha!
This Skillet Almond Shortbread is easy to make and pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea. The buttery shortbread base is packed with hints of almond and bakes up thick, chewy, and full of flavor!
If you’re a fan of simple recipes like I am, then this Skillet Almond Shortbread was made for you. When I saw Trisha make it on her show, I just knew I had to try it. The thick shortbread, the flavor from the almond extract, and the buttery, delicious taste had me hooked.
And it’s just seven ingredients! Plus, it’s made in a skillet, which just seems to ensure that it’s going to be one deliciously sweet dessert. I mean, skillet treats always have me coming back for more, and this shortbread did not disappoint.
I used Trisha’s recipe almost exactly as written, except that I cut down on some of the sugar. If you’re not a fan of almond extract, you could easily replace it with vanilla extract, or even rum or raspberry extract. The possibilities are endless!
So if you’re looking for that easy, but decadent summer treat, you’ve got to try this Skillet Almond Shortbread. It’s full of simple ingredients, takes just minutes to whip up, and turns out delicious every time. It’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser for those hungry house guests!

Notes
This shortbread looks fantastic, Gayle!
And your Saturday morning routine of coffee and Food Network shows sounds like a dream! I wish that my days got off to that kind of start; however, with 3 little boys who are literally up and running around outside by 6 a.m. every day, that’s not exactly my reality. 🙂
Have a great weekend ahead!
Thanks, Blair! Haha I can imagine that you don’t have time to relax like that with kids! 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend, too!
So funny that I haven’t watched any of the shows you mentioned! Though, I do watch a fair bit of the Food Network. I have ‘This is Us’ on my list to watch cause I know you mentioned that it is awesome and my sis in law loves it too! I’ve been watching ‘The F Word’ and ‘Masterchef’ lately with Gordon Ramsey – love those. They always make me hungry though 😉
This skillet shortbread looks delicious, Gayle. Love anything in a skillet. Right off the bat, it sounds so good to me! Love that rustic feel. Bet this would be lovely dunked in some coffee right about now! Pinned! Have a wonderful weekend!
You will LOVE This is Us! I’m rewatching season one to be ready for next season! 🙂 I will have to check out The F Word, heard good things about it. Thanks for the shortbread love and pin, friend!
Oh man, my favorite TV shows? I have a lot of them! lol. As for Netflix though, you have to watch Ozark, it just came out and it’s AWESOME! Speaking of awesome, this skillet bread!! It looks fabulous, Gayle! SO buttery and moist, yet thick! AND with a hint of almond?! YES! PLUS cooked in the ease of a skillet?! DOUBLE YES! Pinned! Cheers, friend!
I’ve never heard of Ozark, but I’ll have to check i out! Thanks for the shortbread love, Cheyanne!
I can almost taste that buttery crumb! So happy you shared this recipe! It’s on my must-make list! Pinned!
Thanks Annie.
Love that it is made in a skillet! Looks perfect! I haven’t been watching a lot of tv shows lately, but these Food Network ones are some of my favorite, too!
Thanks, Mira! I’m loving skillet desserts lately!
I’m loving Bloodline, orange is the new black, and Frankie and Grace all on Netflix! And this recipe looks delicious!
Thanks for the kind words and for stopping by!
I absolutely LOVE The Middle! I’m going to cry when that shows ends haha. I’m so excited for This Is Us season 2! Scandal is definitely my favorite show… and it’s coming into the last season and I’m not sure how I feel about that yet. Anyway, this shortbread looks SO good, Gayle! I love anything that’s almond flavored.. and I bet this pairs just perfectly with a cup of coffee!
The Middle is so good! I’ve never seen Scandal but heard great things about it. Thanks for the sweet comment, Keri!
what an easy dessert, sounds very delicious too 🙂
It definitely is!
I love This is Us and The Kitchen is my favorite on the Food Network! I also like really bad TV, like the Bachelor and Big Brother. If you haven’t seen Younger (weirdly on TV Land), it’s the BEST!! It’s a little cheesy, but also smart and fun.
OK also, this shortbread looks AWESOME!! I love that it’s made in a skillet!
I used to watch The Bachelor religiously until Juan Pablo became him…I just didn’t like him so I stopped watching then. And I will have to check out Younger, I think I’ve seen previews before! Thanks for the shortbread love, Sues!
Shortbread in a skillet! Genius! Love those almonds on top. I never watch any cooking shows but you are making me want to start!
Thanks for the sweet comment, Karen! Dessert skillets are my favorite!
I try to spend my Saturday mornings the same way! Love this shortbread in a skillet! It looks incredible!
Thanks, Jessica!
