  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts: I used four large breasts, though you can use smaller ones or pound the chicken for thinner meat.
  • Seasonings: Italian seasoning, garlic powder, dried oregano, salt and black pepper

  • Pizza sauce: I used this brand, but you could also use marinara sauce.
  • Cheeses: shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Pepperoni slices
  • Fresh basil: for garnish

How to Make the Best Pizza Chicken Bake:

  • Season: mix seasonings in a small bowl and then generously coat each side of chicken breasts.
  • Sear: in a large, oven-proof skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and then sear chicken breasts for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown. This will lock in the flavor when the chicken cooks in the oven.
  • Oven: transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven, spoon pizza sauce over each chicken breast, followed by cheeses and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning. Ingredients
 

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning, (plus more for topping)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • cup pizza sauce, (I used this brand)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 12 slices pepperoni
  • Fresh basil for topping, (if desired)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400℉.
  • To a small bowl, add Italian seasoning, garlic powder, oregano, salt, pepper and mix to combine. Coat all sides of each chicken breast with seasoning mix.
  • In an oven-proof skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chicken to skillet and sear for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until browned, so that the flavor is locked in (chicken will continue to cook in the oven).
  • Transfer skillet to the oven cook for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, spoon pizza sauce over each chicken breast, and then top with cheeses, pepperoni slices, and additional Italian seasoning. Return to oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes (depending on the size of the chicken breasts), until the chicken is cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 165℉. Top with fresh basil, if desired, and serve immediately.
