Grilled Haddock Sandwich
This Grilled Haddock Sandwich makes the perfect lunch or dinner and is full of flavor! Making haddock on the grill is quick and easy, and you need minimal spices to flavor the fish.
My dad loves seafood. Fish, shrimp, lobster and everything in between, he loves it all. But one dish that he’s particularly fond of is fish. And I have to say that I’m the same, too.
Whether it’s salmon, cod, or walleye, I’m not picky and love it all the same. When I was younger, my family and I would head up to Minnesota every summer and spend a week there. In between fishing, hiking, and swimming, we always managed to catch a few fish that my dad would fry up for dinner. And those were some of the best pieces of fish that I’ve ever had.
But since I’m not able to catch some fresh fish with my dad this weekend, I came up with the next best thing! This Grilled Haddock Sandwich makes the perfect lunch or dinner and is full of flavor. It’s easy to prepare and great summer meal to impress dad with.
This recipe for haddock on the grill is topped with fresh lettuce, tomato slices, avocado and a zesty ranch mayonnaise. From start to finish, you can have this meal ready in less than 20 minutes. Sounds pretty good, right?
Once you bite into this grilled haddock sandwich, your taste buds will thank you. The haddock is perfectly seasoned, while the fresh toppings and ranch mayo provide the perfect touch. It’s a sandwich that you can really sink into!

How to Grill Haddock
Grilling haddock is very easy, and it’s a quick process so don’t walk away after you put the fish on to cook! Here’s an overview of how the haddock sandwiches are made:
- Preheat grill to medium-high. Drizzle olive oil over each filet.
- Sprinkle each filet and both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Using a grill basket, sear the fish on one side for about 5-6 minutes, then flip and cook on the other side for about 5 minutes, or until tender and flaky. Remove from grill.
- Place one piece of haddock onto each roll. Slather one side with the ranch mayo. Top with your favorite toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, and avocado.
Can Haddock Be Baked in the Oven?
If you don’t want to use a grill, no problem! The haddock tastes just as good as when it’s baked in the oven or seared on the stove.
How to Tell When Haddock Is Cooked Through
You’ll know the grilled haddock is finished grilling when it’s tender and easy to flake with a fork.
What to Serve with Grilled Haddock Sandwiches
Serve your haddock sandwiches with one or more of the following sides:
- BLT Ranch Pasta Salad
- Corn and Tomato Salad
- Caprese Pasta Salad
- Creamy Pea Salad
- Lemon Parmesan Roasted Asparagus
Tips for Grilling Haddock
- Haddock is a tender fish, so you’ll want to grill it using a grill basket. Otherwise it can be tough to flip over!
- Be careful not to over cook the haddock or else it will wind up being dry.
- You’re welcome to mix and match the sandwich toppings as you see fit.

Love haddock – really like the addition of paprika and garlic. Beautiful flavours! Looks delicious, Gayle!
Thanks for the kind words, Jess!
My favorite thing ever is fried fish sandwiches on the beach. Brings me back, Gayle! But tis healthier version would also make me super happy. And speaking of, happy weekend!
Yes! I really wish I was on a beach somewhere eating this sandwich. Happy weekend to you, too!
What a fabulous sandwich for Dad! We love fishing as a family, catch mostly king salmon on Lake Ontario, great activity though. Walleye too! I guess those would probably work as well on the sandwich. This looks incredibly easy too, which is nice cause then you can actually spend time with the dads instead of cooking all day like I usually do.
Fishing is so fun! I’ve never fished for salmon before, so I’m sure that’s so delicious when it’s caught fresh. Thanks for the kind words, Laura!
Simple and easy to make. I would go the ‘start of summer’ option, cannot wait for that
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the kind words and for stopping by, Emanuele!

Hi! I buy the frozen fillets. Should I thaw it out first before grilling?
Hi Luz! I would follow the packaged directions, but generally, yes, thaw before grilling. Hope you enjoy and thanks for stopping by!
