Firecracker Rice Krispie Treat Pops
Firecracker Rice Krispie Treat Pops are fun, festive, and perfect for your Fourth of July celebration. With simple ingredients, this treat is perfect for both kids and adults!
Can you believe it’s almost July?
The summer is flying by, as it usually does. Sunshine, warm (ok, HOT) weather, and lots of delicious foods have been making their appearance recently.
And if you’re a fan of rice krispies treats, then I’ve got the best recipe for you!
Not only is this rice krispies treat recipe simple to make, but it’s also perfect for a 4th of July dessert! Classic, chewy and gooey rice krispies are taken to a whole new, patriotic level. By using pop rocks candy and some white chocolate, this no bake dessert is just about as easy as it gets.
Ingredients in Rice Krispie Treats:
- Unsalted butter
- Miniature marshmallows
- Vanilla extract
- Crispy rice cereal (such as Rice Krispies cereal)
- White chocolate chips
- Coconut oil or shortening
- Red and blue Pop Rocks candy
- Craft sticks or colorful straws
How to Make Firecracker Rice Krispies Treat Pops:
- Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray (or line with parchment paper) and set aside.
- Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat. When the butter has completely melted, add in the mini marshmallows and stir to coat.
- Continue to heat the marshmallows, stirring often, until they are completely melted. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Add the cereal to the melted marshmallows and stir to combine.
- Gently press the cereal mixture into prepared pan and allow to set for 15 minutes.
- As the treats are setting, add the white chocolate chips and coconut oil or shortening to a small saucepan. Heat over low heat, stirring frequently, until melted and smooth.
- Cut the treats into 16 rectangles. Gently press a craft stick into the middle of each rectangle. Dip each treat halfway into the melted chocolate and sprinkle with pop rocks.
- Place the dipped treats onto a baking sheet covered with parchment or wax paper or on a wire rack to set. You can allow them to set at room temperature or stick them in the refrigerator to set a little faster.
Storage Instructions
These treats can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. If you are in a warmer environment you may wish to keep them in the refrigerator to prevent the chocolate from melting. Just allow the treats to warm up for 5 minutes or so before serving if you keep them chilled.
Can I Use Candy Melts or Almond Bark Instead of White Chocolate Chips?
Absolutely! Just be sure to keep the same amount of melts or bark as listed in the recipe.
How Long Can These Treats be Stored in the Refrigerator?
It’s helpful to store these treats in the refrigerator if you live in a warm environment or will be keeping them in a warm home. Keeping them chilled will prevent the chocolate from melting. However, keeping them chilled for too long can cause them to dry out and become hard to eat. I recommend keeping them refrigerator for only a day or two before serving.
Rice Krispie Treats Variation:
It’s so easy to switch up classic rice krispies treats!
- Use flavored marshmallows!
- Drizzle caramel or peanut butter chips on top!
- Add some chocolate candies or crushed cookies when mixing the cereal into the marshmallows!
Tips for Making the Best Rice Krispies Treat Pops:
- Depending on how you choose to decorate your treats you may have some chocolate or pop rocks leftover. For this recipe, I chose to coat the treats halfway in chocolate and sprinkle pop rocks on one side only. This left me with a few leftovers. You can cover the entire treat in chocolate and sprinkle with pop rocks on more than one side if you prefer.
- This recipe is specifically themed for the 4th of July holiday. You can change the colors of pop rocks or use a different topping to make them suitable for any occasion.
- I found it easiest to insert the straws by standing the individual treats up on one end and gently pushing the straw in the middle. You may have to re-shape them a bit after inserting the straw/stick. You can also leave the sticks out all together if you prefer.
