Christmas is in two weeks, friends!

I say this often, but time sure flies. And with the hustle and bustle of the season comes lots of tasty sweets. If you’re looking for more easy Christmas desserts, you must check out this Christmas sugar cookie dip, that candy cane dessert, and this pull-apart eggnog bread.

And a new one to add to the list are these Christmas tree pies. Easier to make than a homemade pie and with just a few ingredients, this is the perfect hand pie for the season.

These cherry hand pies are made with cherry pie filling and a ready-made pie crust. Much like these mini heart pies, they’re fun to eat and even easier to make!

Using cookie cutters is such a great way to get just about any shape that you want. And because it’s the holiday season, I opted for Christmas tree shapes. But, a candy cane, snowflake, or snowman cookie cutter would work just as well.

This Christmas tree hand pies recipe would be a fun addition to your holiday party or gathering. Simple to make and with minimal ingredients, these will be the star of the show!

How to Make Cherry Hand Pies:

  3. Add about 2 tablespoons cherry pie filling to half of the trees. Take the unfilled trees and press on top of the cherry-filled trees to form a crust. Seal the edges with a fork and wipe away any excess filling that might have seeped out.
  4. Using a knife, make a small slit on the top of each pie so they can vent in the oven. Brush the melted butter over the tops of each pie and sprinkle with sugar.
  5. Bake for about 13-15 minutes, or until pies turn golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool completely before adding the glaze.

TO MAKE THE GLAZE:

What Kind of Pie Filling Can I Use?

This recipe is incredibly versatile, so any pie filling works. Strawberry, blueberry, apple, or even pumpkin filling would be delicious.

If time allows, fresh cherries or another fresh fruit would make this extra tasty.

How to Store Leftovers:

You can store leftover pies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.

To freeze: place tree pies in a freezer-safe container or resealable bag and freeze for up to three months. When ready to serve, let thaw completely in the refrigerator.

Tips for Using the Pre-made Pie Crust:

To prevent tears: let the refrigerated crusts sit at room temperature for 10-15 minute before using. This way, it softens a bit and will not tear easily.

Be sure to cut a slit into the top of each pie before baking to allow steam to escape.

Do I Need to Use a Glaze?

No! If you prefer to not make a glaze, these are delicious as is. You could also sprinkle powdered sugar over the baked pies to resemble snow; or brush the pies with an egg wash before baking to give it that golden brown color.
