It is one of the easiest dinner recipes on my site, and you could also serve this chicken garlic toast as a hearty appetizer. It’s a fun mashup of two classic dishes…bbq chicken and garlic bread!

In fact, you may have seen a similar recipe floating around on TikTok, but I’m here to tell you that this version is extra easy and extra delicious. With minimal preparation and cooking time, it’s a must-make for your next pizza night.

The base of this garlic toast recipe is from frozen Texas toast, giving this thick and hearty bread a lot of flavor. And the shredded chicken is tender and tossed in a tangy bbq sauce that is sweet and smokey.

And we can’t forget about the cheese! Shredded mozzarella creates a gooey, cheesy layer that complements the bbq chicken. And for some extra flavor, red onions add the finishing touch to make the best garlic toast.

If you have 20 minutes to spare, this bbq chicken pizza will turn out hot, melty, and perfect for a weeknight dinner for the whole family.

Ingredients: 

  • Frozen Garlic Bread: Texas toast works best.
  • Shredded Chicken: For ease and convenience, I used the shredded rotisserie chicken that you can find near the deli section of your grocery store.
  • BBQ Sauce: Any kind works well, but this one is my favorite barbecue sauce.
  • Shredded Cheese: Any variety works well, though I love the taste of mozzarella cheese in this recipe.
  • Red Onion: This is optional, but pairs perfectly with the barbecue flavor.
  • Italian Seasoning: For an extra burst of flavor.

How to Make Oven Garlic Toast:

  • Bake: Place the frozen garlic bread on a baking sheet and bake for several minutes.
  • Prepare Chicken: Add the shredded chicken and BBQ sauce to a small bowl and mix to combine.
  • Assemble: Remove the bread from oven and top with bbq sauce, shredded cheese, red onion, and Italian seasoning.
  • Finish baking: Place bread back into oven and bake until the cheese is melty and bread is cooked through.

How to Store:

To keep the quick garlic toast as fresh as possible, I recommend wrapping each slice individually with aluminum foil and then placing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days.

I do not recommend freezing this BBQ chicken garlic bread pizza, as it was previously frozen.

  • To reheat: You can reheat the slices of bread in the microwave for 45-50 seconds, or until heated through. You can also reheat in the oven at 375℉ for 10-12 minutes, or until warmed through.

Recipe Variations of Baked Garlic Toast:

  • Change the Protein: You can use grilled chicken or chicken breasts, any leftover chicken, pulled pork, ground beef, or shredded turkey for a different meat.
  • Add Some Veggies: Bell peppers, spinach, arugula, or mushrooms would be a tasty addition to this chicken pizza.
  • Switch the Cheese: Try adding sharp cheddar, smoked gouda, or goat cheese for a different flavor.
  • Adjust the Sauce: Use a spicy BBQ sauce, mix in some ranch, or try a buffalo sauce for an added kick.
  • Use a Loaf of French Bread: Instead of frozen garlic bread, use fresh (or frozen) French bread.

Tips for Making Frozen Garlic Bread Pizza:

  • Preheat the Oven: Be sure to preheat the oven based on what the directions say on the back of the garlic bread box.
  • Add More Flavor: This step is optional, but if you want even more garlic flavor, add a touch of garlic butter or olive oil to the edges of the bread just before baking.
  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Freshly cooked chicken is best to use (not a frozen kind) as it will taste better and cook along with the garlic bread. 
  • Finish with a Broil: If you want a crispy crust, broil the bread for about 1 minute just before serving. Be sure to keep an eye on it so that it doesn’t burn.
  • Add Fresh Garnishes: A sprinkling of fresh parsley, basil, or crushed red pepper flakes for more flavor.

This BBQ Chicken Garlic Toast is an easy appetizer or dinner that's ready in minutes. Featuring tender chicken, tangy bbq sauce, and melty cheese, this recipe is easy to make and even better to eat!

Ingredients
 

  • 6 slices frozen garlic Texas toast
  • 1 cup cooked, shredded chicken, (I used the shredded rotisserie chicken that you can find near the deli section of your grocery store)
  • 1 cup + 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce, divided, (this is my favorite)
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Sliced red onion, (if desired)
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 425℉ (or to the temperature on the back of your frozen garlic bread box). Line a large baking pan with parchment paper. Place frozen toast onto prepared pan and bake for 4 minutes. While toast is baking, add chicken and ½ cup of bbq sauce to a medium bowl and stir to combine.
  • Remove toast from oven, flip each slice, and then spread each slice with 1 tablespoon of bbq sauce, half of the shredded cheese, and then top each slice with chicken, the remaining shredded cheese, red onion slices (if desired), and then sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
  • Bake for an additional 4-6 minutes, or until cheese is melted and toasted in heated through. Optional: broil for 1 minute to get an extra crispy texture. Serve immediately.

  • Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for up to two days.
