Banana Chocolate Chip Baked Oats
If you’ve been hanging around here long enough, you must know by now that I loved baked oatmeal. This banana bread oatmeal and those strawberry banana baked oatmeal cups are a favorite of mine.
But, it was time that I hoped on the viral TikTok trend of baked oats. It took me a while to hear about this, and even longer to try them, but now that I did, I’m hooked!
Chocolate banana baked oats resemble the texture and taste of cake. Yep, that’s right…cake! You can have your cake for breakfast and enjoy it, too. And in a healthier way!

What is the difference between baked oatmeal and baked oats?
Good question! Baked oatmeal typically leave the oats whole when baked, which results in a heartier texture. Baked oats grind the oats in a high-speed blender before baking, giving it that cake-like texture.
Are Baked Oats Good For You?
Yes! Oats are a good source of fiber, which keeps you full and can slow down digestion.
What Size Ramekins Do I Use?
Two 6-ounce or 8-ounce ramekins will make two servings of these healthy chocolate chip baked oats. If you don’t have ramekins, an 8-ounce baking dish will work.
What Kind of Oats Can I Use?
Rolled or old-fashioned oats are best for this recipe. Steel-cut or quick oats will not work well, as the texture will not resemble cake.
How to Store Baked Oatmeal:
Let the oatmeal cool to room temperature and then store in the ramekin (covered) or other airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days.
Can I Reheat These Chocolate Baked Oats?
You sure can! Reheat the oats in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until warmed through.
Can I Freeze Baked Oats?
Yes! Let oats cool to room temperature and then freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to three months.
Toppings for Easy Baked Oats:
To give these oats an extra touch of flavor, I like to top it with:
- A drizzle of honey, peanut butter, almond butter, or even chocolate syrup
- A spoonful of greek yogurt
- Fresh blueberries, strawberries, or banana slices
- A dollop of whipped cream
Tips for Making the Best Baked Oats Recipe:
- Milk is required for this recipe. However, any kind of milk of milk will work. I’ve tested this will oat milk, almond milk, and 2% and all turned out well.
- Don’t skip the baking powder! It’s needed for the oats to rise and become cake-like.
- To keep this recipe with no refined sugar (except for the chocolate chips), honey or pure maple syrup works well for sweetening the oats. However, coconut sugar or agave would work just as well.
- Stir in the chocolate chips after blending to ensure the chips stay whole. You can also add a few chocolate chips on the top of the batter before baking.

Followed this recipe exactly and this turned out horribly. I split the batter between two 7oz ramekins. Baked at 350 degrees and the center would not cook. 1 hour later and the centers are still mush 🙁
Any clue why that might have happened?
So sorry that happened! I have made this MANY times and have never had that happen. Are you sure you followed the directions exactly? Did you use old fashioned oats? Quick oats will not work in this recipe. Only 1/2 cup milk? 1 egg? There’s no reason why the center would be undercooked an hour later, especially since cooking in a small ramekin.
This recipe of banana chocolate chip baked oats is something different. Love it. Very delicious and creative. Will prepare for my children this weekend. Thanks for sharing.
Hope your children enjoy, Vicky!
We have been LOVING this recipe!! Thank you so much for posting! It’s the most fun and healthy way I can give my 2 year old “cake” for breakfast! We are a health-eating family, so the fact that I can find creative ways to us enjoy dessert for breakfast that is just a fancy oatmeal, but comes out like cake, is such a winner! Also, I sub berries, nuts, or raisins for my son and husband, while I stick to the amazing chocolate for me!
I’m so happy to hear that, Katie! Glad you all enjoyed and thanks for sharing!
