And overnight oats…I can’t forget about those. I used to turn my nose up at the thought of cold oats, but once I actually tried it, I was hooked. Seriously, friends. Oats literally prepped and ready in the refrigerator are oh-so delicious. I’m no stranger to overnight oats, friends! What are overnight oats?

Rather than the traditional way of cooking oats, overnight oats (either quick or old-fashioned) are soaked overnight (or for at least four hours) in milk. The oats will soak up the milk and soften up to almost a creamy, oatmeal-like texture. You can add Greek yogurt, fruit, and other toppings to jazz up the oats. There are many different ways to prepare overnight oats, depending on your preferences. It makes a deliciously easy breakfast with no cook time and very little preparation. Overnight oats also make a delicious grab-n-go breakfast or snack.

What kind of oats are best for overnight oats?

Rolled (or old-fashioned) oats, quick oats, steel cut oats, and muesli work well for overnight oats. The oats will absorb the milk and other ingredients, transforming them into a soft texture.

Do you eat overnight oats hot or cold?

Both! Overnight oats are typically served cold because of the preparation. However, if you would rather a warm bowl of oatmeal, feel free to heat it up in the microwave.

How long do overnight oats last?

The oats will usually last for up to five days. The longer the oats sit in the milk mixture, the creamier the oats will be.
