Air Fryer Fried Pickles
If you’re a pickle lover and you haven’t tried fried pickles yet, you’re in a for a real treat.
These air fryer pickles are lightly seasoned with flavorful spices and then coated in panko bread crumbs. With just a few ingredients, these bread pickles an easy appetizer for parties, get-togethers, or just yourself.
I’ve known people to drink pickle juice straight from the jar, so if that’s you, this recipe is calling your name.
And just incase you’re new around here, air fryer recipes are my favorite. These air fryer parmesan green beans and air fryer cheesy garlic bread are two recipes guaranteed to please.
But, back to these breaded pickles. Tangy, crunchy, and delicious when served with ranch dressing or your favorite dipping sauce.
No deep frying is involved. Just hot air and a little air frying, which makes this recipe a tiny bit healthier, and easier, too. In fact, I bet this air fryer pickle recipe will rival your favorite restaurant version. But, best of all, you can control exactly what goes in this recipe.
The best thing about this delicious appetizer is the flavor. Hints of salt, garlic, and cayenne pepper pair with dill make the most mouth-watering combo. The cayenne pepper adds a slight kick, but nothing too spicy. Regular pickles are a thing of the past, as this air fryer version hits the spot!
Ingredients in Air Fryer Dill Pickles:
- Pickle chips (bread and butter or sliced dill pickles)
- Bread crumbs (plain, Italian, or panko works well)
- Garlic powder
- Salt
- Cayenne pepper
- All-purpose flour
- Eggs
How Do I Make Fried Pickles Crispy?
No soggy or mush pickle around here, just crisp and delicious! Here’s how to get that perfect result:
-
Preheat air fryer to 380°F (if your air fryer has this function). Line paper towels on a counter or flat surface. Place pickles on top of paper towels and then take more paper towels and blot pickles dry. Let pickles dry for about 5 minutes.
-
In a small bowl, add bread crumbs, garlic powder, salt, cayenne pepper. Mix well to combine. Set aside.
-
Add flour to a medium bowl and beaten eggs to a separate bowl. Dredge the pickles, one at a time, first in the flour mixture, next in egg mixture, and last in the bread crumb mixture, making sure each pickle is coated well with bread crumb mixture.
-
Place the pickles in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray the tops of pickles lightly with cooking spray. Cook for 6-8 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Repeat process with remaining pickles.
How to Store Dill Pickle Chips:
These do not store well, as the breadcrumbs will make the pickles soggy after a while. However, if you would like to keep leftovers, store fried pickles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days.
When ready to serve: lightly spray cooking spray over pickles and reheat in the air fryer at 380°F for 5-6 minutes, or until warmed through.
What Kind of Sauce Should I Serve?
I love dipping the pickle slices in ranch, but fry sauce, cheese sauce, hot sauce, bbq sauce, or blue cheese would make a tasty option, too.
Can I Use Pickle Spears?
Absolutely! You may need more or less of the ingredients and a longer cook time, but the instructions will be the same.
Variations of Fried Pickles:
- Slice whole dill pickles for thicker, fried pickle chips. You can also use sandwich pickles for larger slice.
- Use some dried dill or a touch of parmesan cheese when mixing the bread crumb mixture.
- Italian or panko bread crumbs are a nice swap for the regular kind.
Tips for Making the Best Air Fried Pickles:
- It’s crucial for the pickle slices to be mostly dry before preparing to ensure a crispy coating. Blot dry with paper towels and let sit out for 5 minutes before coating.
- Be sure to lay pickles in a single, even layer in your air fryer basket. It is important not overcrowd them, otherwise the pickles won’t get crisp.
- Before cooking, spray the tops of pickles lightly with cooking spray. Note: I’ve read that cooking spray can damage the air fryer basket. I only use olive oil spray in my air fryer.
