Parmesan Mushroom Bites
Parmesan Mushroom Bites feature pizza dough that’s filled with fresh mushrooms, Parmesan cheese, and a sprinkling of spices. This is a super quick appetizer that comes together in less than 30 minutes!
If you love mushrooms, you’ve got to make these ranch seasoned mushrooms, rosemary roasted mushrooms, and Parmesan garlic mushrooms next!
Filled with fresh mushrooms, Parmesan cheese, and a sprinkling of spices, these savory mushroom bites are packed with flavor and make the perfect treat for any occasion.
These Parmesan mushroom bites look fancy, but in reality, you can have these prepped and ready to be devoured in about 25 minutes.
My big secret? The crust of this bite-sized appetizer is just store-bought pizza dough! It’s easy to work with and bakes quickly, which is a win-win in my book!
The flaky crust and savory mushroom mixture create the perfect, pop-able bite. Top them with fresh chives before serving, and you have a tasty and delicious appetizer that’s perfect for game days, New Year’s Eve, Christmas, or any time you’re hosting a party!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe:
- Quick and easy: Store-bought pizza dough is used as the crust for these mushroom tartlets, which saves you so much time and energy.
- Basic ingredients: You need just seven ingredients to make the appetizer bites, and everything can be purchased a few days in advance.
- Elegant: These bites look incredibly fancy, but they take less than 30 minutes to assemble and bake!
Ingredients for Mushroom Bites:
- Pizza dough: Use any kind you like, so long as it’s from the refrigerated section.
- Butter: I prefer using unsalted butter and then salting the mushroom filling to taste.
- Mushrooms: Any kind will work; I used regular white button mushrooms.
- Garlic powder: Flavors the mushroom filling without overpowering it.
- Fresh chives: Add a pop of fresh flavor that offsets the earthy mushrooms.
- Heavy whipping cream: Do not use milk or half and half, otherwise the filling won’t thicken up properly.
- Grated Parmesan: Freshly grated will melt the best.
How to Make Mushroom Bites:
- Prepare the crust: Unroll the pizza dough and cut into 24 equal pieces. Press the pieces into the cavities of a mini muffin pan that’s been sprayed with non-stick spray.
- Make the filling: Sauté the mushrooms, garlic powder, and chives in a buttered skillet. Add the heavy cream and grated Parmesan, then simmer until thickened.
- Assemble: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the mushroom filling into each of the pizza dough cups.
- Bake: You’ll know the bites are done when the crust turns golden brown.
Can This Recipe Be Made in Advance?
If you plan on serving this appetizer to guests, I recommend assembling and baking it the same day you’ll be serving it.
The bites are delicious the next day, but the crust loses its crispness in the fridge. As such, I prefer serving any leftovers just to myself or the hubster.
Can the Pizza Dough Be Replaced with Puff Pastry?
Most likely, yes! Read the package instructions to see if you need to adjust the bake time, or simply use your best judgement and bake until the bites are golden brown.
Tips for Making Mushroom Appetizer Bites:
- Chop the mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. They’ll cook down in the skillet, but since the mini tartlets are so small you don’t want any large pieces to sneak into the filling.
- If you don’t have pizza dough on hand, you can likely make this recipe with thawed puff pastry or even crescent roll dough.
- Don’t crank up the heat in an effort to make the filling cook faster. Keep your skillet over medium heat; if you overheat the Parmesan or heavy whipping cream, they may split.

Mushrooms are my favorite! I didn’t like pizza as a kid, but my parents would always get mushrooms on the pizza and I picked them all off and just ate them and no pizza. I was one strange kid haha. I’m also a huge wine lover, so snacks like these are a must!
Haha I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t like pizza! 🙂 But you did like mushrooms, so that makes up for it! 🙂 Thanks for the kind words, Keri!

I wanted a more substantial serving as a side for dinner so I stuffed crescent rolls with the filling and baked according to package directions. None were left when dinner was over.
I’m so glad you enjoyed these, Jennifer! That’s a fantastic idea for adding the filling to crescent rolls, I’m definitely going to try that out next time. Thanks for the tip and for stopping by!
